Toyota Shows Off Third-Generation Hydrogen Fuel Cell System

On Feb 19, 2025, Toyota displayed its latest fuel cell system at the H2 & FC Expo in Tokyo. The 3rd Gen system is primarily designed for commercial vehicles, though it can be used in passenger cars, as well as
stationary power generators and on ships.

Toyota says the new hydrogen fuel cell system delivers "diesel-like" durability, and the cost has been lowered as well. It will become available commercially in 2026.

According to Toyota, the new fuel cell system doubles the lifespan of previous systems, attaining " diesel engine" level of reliability. In addition, it increases cursing range by 20% compared to the previous
version. Refinements in cell design and production processes allowed Toyota to reduce costs as well.

Toyota continues to develop hydrogen systems, remaining steadfast in its commitment to a hydrogen-powered future. Given Toyota's past engineering accomplishments, it may be sooner rather than later, that we will be driving fuel cell (hydrogen powered) vehicles and instead of backup generators, we will have fuel cell powered home energy storage systems.

Naturally, hydrogen powered autos will come with their own set of challenges, but we are confident that our preferred providers will be at the cutting edge of the hydrogen car revolution - just as in the past they embraced hybrids and electric vehicles. And we, of course, will have tips and suggestions for getting the most out of your new hydrogen powered vehicles. Until then, drop in now-and-then to see what's new
and exciting in the automotive world.
